Cyber Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (CUFS) Korean Language Department held a special lecture on ‘CUFS School Life Guide and Career Guidance for ICK Students’ for Indonesian students at the university’s cyber hall on Saturday, August 3.
Due to the nature of cyber universities where all learning processes are conducted online and in Korean, foreign learners who lack proficiency in Korean may experience difficulties in the academic performance process. This special lecture was prepared to help such students, and was conducted in a way that Professor Jeongran Jin of the Department of Korean Language at CUFS provided guidance on inquiries from foreign students that he identified and collected while conducting the class.
About 50 people attended the event, including faculty from the Department of Korean Language, executives from ICK (Indonesian Community in Korea), a consultative body of Indonesians in Korea, Indonesian students, and prospective students. The special lecture specifically covered topics such as △how to select subjects △how to conduct learning activities in LMS △understanding the credit structure and major system for graduation △career exploration through sharing of graduates' current status.
Professor Jeong-ran Jin, who was in charge of hosting the event, revealed his intention to plan a special lecture, saying, “I wanted to help foreign students as much as possible after seeing how sincere they were studying Korean and continuing their studies while living in Korea, a foreign country.” She added, “Through this special lecture, it will be possible to design specific self-learning activities, and we hope to be able to design specific career paths.”
Anna Kusuma, a student who completed a major in Korean language and a double major in Korean language education at the Department of Korean Language and is scheduled to graduate at the end of this month, said, “There were times when I had difficulties studying as a foreigner, but I was able to graduate safely through helping each other with Indonesian students and providing study directions from professors in the Department of Korean Language. “I was able to achieve this,” She said, adding, “I hope that other Indonesian students will also study hard at Cyber Hankuk University of Foreign Studies and help them choose their career path.”
The Department of Korean Language at CUFS operates two major courses: the Korean language major for foreigners, which trains experts in Korean language and culture, and the Korean language education major, for those who dream of becoming Korean language teachers who will go to the world. Both major programs offer a variety of extracurricular programs and student support systems to develop theoretical and practical skills, including this special lecture event.
Meanwhile, CUFS is recruiting new and transfer students for the second semester of the 2024 school year until Monday, August 19. Students are selected from nine departments: △Department of English, △Department of Chinese Language, △Department of Japanese Language, △Department of Korean Language, △Department of Spanish Language, △Department of Vietnamese and Indonesian Studies, △Department of Occupational Safety and Housing Management, △Department of Multicultural and Psychological Counseling, and △Department of K-Beauty.
