In a significant step toward expanding Mongolia’s meat export industry, the Mongolian government, in collaboration with international partners, is making strides to boost exports to Kuwait and the Gulf countries. This move is part of the broader "Food Revolution" National Campaign, a key initiative championed by the President of Mongolia.
Under this initiative, the Mongolian Agency for Standard Metrology, along with the Ministry of Food, Agriculture, and Light Industry, is participating in an Export Promotion Project. This project, funded by the World Bank's International Development Association and executed by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, is specifically designed to enhance Mongolia’s meat export capabilities.
As part of the project, the Mongolian Agency for Standard Metrology has received crucial technical assistance to bolster its role as the nation's conformity assessment body. On December 20, 2023, the agency was awarded accreditation certificate No. 0089 for halal food product certification, valid for four years. This certification, recognized by the Gulf Cooperation Council’s Accreditation Center, now positions Mongolia to meet the strict halal standards required by markets in Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain.
On August 12, 2024, the Mongolian Agency for Standard Metrology issued its first-ever halal certificates to two national companies—“Dornod Makh Market” LLC and “Trust Group” LLC—after assessing six applicants. These companies will now be able to export their meat products to the Gulf region, backed by a certification that’s valid for two years.
