The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (Minister Oh Yoo-kyung) has been carrying out the ‘Cosmetics Halal Certification Support Project’ with KIHI (Korea Institute of Halal Industry) since July of this year to enable domestic cosmetics to enter the Islamic market.

In particular, Indonesia, a representative Islamic country in Southeast Asia, is pushing for the mandatory display of halal certification information for all cosmetics distributed in the country starting in October 2026, so preparation for this is necessary.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety provides the following support projects to domestic cosmetics businesses seeking to enter the halal market.

▲Halal cosmetics certification process online training

▲Seminar and consultation session with experts from domestic halal certification agencies and overseas certification agencies

▲Consulting for companies seeking Halal certification

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety discussed cooperation measures related to halal certification through a high-level meeting with the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs on July 3, 2024. In this meeting, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety requested that a mutual cross-recognition agreement be quickly concluded between the domestic Halal Certification Agency and the Indonesian Halal Certification Agency (BPJPH) so that Korean cosmetics can actively enter the Indonesian market.

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety has been carrying out a project to support halal certification for cosmetics since 2016. In 2023, halal cosmetics certification procedure training (73 companies), halal cosmetics-related international seminars (3 times), on-site consulting for companies (5 places), and certification agency consultations (3 times) were conducted. Among the companies that participated in the Halal Cosmetics Certification Support Project last year, four companies are in the process of certification, and six companies are preparing for Halal certification.

Detailed information on participation in the cosmetics Halal certification support project can be found on KIHI's website (www.eduhalal.kr) and can be contacted by phone (☏02-3275-1125).

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety plans to continue to do its best to support our cosmetics so that they can lead the global market based on excellent technology.
