Daegu Metropolitan City is launching a 'Halal food revitalization project' targeting local food companies with the goal of increasing the number of Halal certified companies tenfold from 5 to 50 by 2028 and tripling the export amount from $71.1 million to $200 million.
In 2022, Daegu food exports are showing a high growth rate of $71.1 million, up 13.6% from the previous year, but the proportion of total Daegu food industry sales is low at around 3%, showing a food industry structure centered on domestic demand. The ‘Halal Food Revitalization Project’, in which 5 billion won will be invested over 5 years from 2024 to 2028, will carry out the following support projects for local food companies wishing to enter the halal market. ▲Support 50 million won per year for Halal certification costs, which are essential for entering the Halal market, to increase the number of Halal certification companies tenfold from the current five to 50 by 2028. ▲Support the development of customized halal food for each Muslim country. ▲Provide halal food market trends and information ▲Hold a consultation session inviting buyers with high purchasing power. ▲Participate in MIHAS, the world's largest halal expo held in Malaysia, by establishing a Daegu joint pavilion to promote D-Food. Through this support project, Daegu Metropolitan City plans to grow Daegu food exports by 181% from the current $71.1 million to $200 million by 2028 and to transform the structure of Daegu's food industry from domestic demand to export-oriented. Through the 'Halal Food Revitalization Project', Daegu Metropolitan City will first pioneer the halal market in Southeast Asia, where geographical accessibility is good and demand for Korean food is increasing, so that the local food industry can lay a new foundation for growth. In the future, it will also pioneer the Middle East market. <저작권자 ⓒ SalamKorea 무단전재 및 재배포 금지>
