The Korean cosmetics industry's interest in on-site halal certification consultations conducted by KIHI (Korea Institute of Halal Industry) is greatly increasing.

According to KIHI, as of July this year, eight companies have applied for the on-site consultation for cosmetics halal certification, which was limited to the participation of only five companies in 2023. It is expected that more than 10 companies will apply for on-site consultations by the end of November, when the project ends.

It was found that not only companies producing their own brand products, but also OEM- or ODM-based cosmetics producers are participating in on-site consultations to obtain halal certification.

The on-site consultation session consists of a question-and-answer session on the Halal certification process and a session to check the Halal certification readiness of the production facility. After the on-site consultation, KIHI provides a consultation report to the applicant.

According to KIHI, as of the end of 2023, there are 35 Halal-certified cosmetics manufacturing plants in Korea, and the number of Halal-certified cosmetics manufacturing plants is expected to reach close to 50 by 2024.

The Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety's Halal Certification Support Project for Cosmetics began in 2016 and has contributed greatly to spreading awareness of Halal cosmetics in the Korean cosmetics industry.
